Picassco I'm Not (Day 980)

As that punch list shrinks, some not so interesting jobs surface—like painting. With the closet done and ready for carpet it only made sense (to my wife) that I should paint the two stairwells next, then we could get the carpet installed. Hah, I said. We haven't even picked out carpet. Well, later that morning I found myself in Peninsula Flooring (PT) looking at . . . carpet. Did the usual routine. Find three that she liked and I could live with, take them home, and check them out in place. She didn't like A (my favorite), I didn't like C (her favorite), so B it was. Now color. We quickly narrowed it down to one 2x3 corner of the 30 color palette. We both agreed that it was going to be "Snead", way too easy you say. I thought that was an old time golfer, but its a color out there in the inferior design world. It turns out that Snead is just about the same color as the carpet we picked out for the Denver house in 1980. Some things never change, like stuff we mutually like.

The staircase trim is no easy job. First I had to fill and sand all the nail holes and nicks, then tack cloth the whole thing. Plus vacuum the staircase treads and risers a couple times to get all the potential buggers up. Plus the inside of 3 doors have painted trim too, so all told there is probably (no kidding) 160 linear ft of trim to paint, twice. Its just a grunt and plow ahead job. Nothing like crawling up and down 32 stairs on your knees to remind you that you're not a teenager anymore. Anyway, 3 days of intermittent painting, sanding and cleanup and the staircases are ready for carpet. The store called today and said it would arrive in 7-10 business days, so that sounds like an install in mid to late July. No matter, my part of that process is done. On to something else, like more landscaping to fill holes from plants that didn't survive our 15°F temps last January. Then I'm getting a paint ball gun to mark the culprits (deer) that are eating all the new foliage that isn't sprayed with blood or egg and chili powder (no kidding, that's the local solution to deer grazing). Time for a G&T, I'd say.
